MTV Has Posted Full ‘Daria’ Episodes On Its YouTube Channel

If you grew up in the 90s and watched a lot of MTV, you should probably cancel your plans for the holiday weekend. The Music Television network has shared eight full episodes of its animated classic Daria, which ran from from 1997 to 2002.

Originally launched as a spin-off of the Mike Judge cult classic Beevis and Butt-Head, Daria followed the life of disaffected, sarcastic, sneaky-brilliant high-school student Daria Morgendorffer, who used biting wit to navigate her relationships with friends, family, and classmates. The show struck a chord with many teenagers, who identified with Daria’s status as a social outcast.

Now, those viewers can rewatch a few choice installments from MTV’s cult hit on YouTube. The cable channel has uploaded an episode each day since December 18th and, at the time of this post, has pledged to continue its current posting schedule leading up to the Christmas holiday. The newly-shared episodes have joined five others already available on the MTV YouTube channel.

Daria is not the first classic MTV show to find its way onto YouTube, as visitors to the network’s digital hub can also find a few assorted episodes of Beevis and Butt-Head. If digital revivals of old favorites is going to become MTV’s new strategy, I’m all for it, especially if it means that Wonder Showzen is somewhere in the network’s digital distribution pipeline.
