Anna Akana is in the YouTube community’s upper echelon when it comes to filmmaking talent, and she will now get a chance to show off that talent in a big way. She has announced Sticky, an upcoming feature film.
Sticky will star Akana and will feature a script co-written by the YouTube star and Maggie Levin. Plot details aren’t yet known, but Akana did share the film’s provocative poster when she announced it with an Instagram post.
Beyond Sticky, Akana has also used her digital notability as a jumping-off point for several other big projects. She recently launched Miss 2059, based off a short film she shot alongside New Form Digital, on the mobile video platform Go90. She also landed a role in You Get Me, an upcoming movie produced by Awesomeness Films.
Akana is another planning another film, I Heart Social Media, which is currently in the early stages of development alongside Gidden Media.
Like many other films led by social media stars, Sticky will be released through digital platforms in lieu of a widespread theatrical run. The movie’s release date and the service through which it will be available are not yet known, though Tubefilter has heard speculation that Sticky could end up on the premium content platform YouTube Red.
