Vimeo is rejiggering the layout of its profile pages in order, it says, to better highlight the work of creators and to give users more control of how they wish to showcase their films.
Beginning today, users will be able to select a ‘Cover Video’ that appears at the top of their profile pages, consisting of a silently looping clip. Users will also be able to select ‘Featured Videos’ — or up to 10 clips that can appear in any order on the front page of their profiles, the company announced. (The ‘Featured Video’ tab can be accessed by clicking ‘Edit profile’). Vimeo also says it has stripped away unnecessary elements to better highlight content and contact information. Rather than links, for instance, social pages will now appear as icons.
“Now all Vimeo members, regardless of membership type, have even better ways to customize their profiles,” the company wrote in a blog post. “And we’ll be adding even more profile customization tools in the coming weeks — including a hot new ‘Videos’ page, with extra control for you — designed especially with creators like you in mind.”
Here’s a few profiles from the Vimeo community showcasing the new features in action:
This isn’t Vimeo’s only structural revamp in recent weeks. Earlier this month, the company announced that its beloved Staff Picks channel would evolve into a year-long online film festival, which will hand out new laurels every week, month, and year. At the same time, Vimeo announced that it would premiere brand new Staff Picks weekly with its Staff Pick Premieres initiative — the first of which was a Danny DeVito-directed short titled Curmudgeons.
