Screen Junkies Launches Open Casting Call To Find Host For New YouTube Channel

Screen Junkies, the Defy Media-owned digital brand focused on movie and TV-related content, is kicking off a national talent search for a host to headline a new series on a forthcoming second YouTube channel called Screen Junkies News.

In looking to bring a fan into the fold, the Screen Junkies team is asking aspiring creators to record themselves performing a breaking news segment — which they must then upload to either YouTube or Vimeo before filling out an application form right here. Entrants must be at least 18 years old and live in Los Angeles — as well as possess an unabiding love for film, television, and all things geek culture. The deadline is Oct. 2.

The winner of the competition will join Screen Junkies’ illustrious team, which creates shows like Honest Trailers, the viral satire series; The Screen Junkies Show, comprising film-related interviews and discussions; and Movie Fights, a debate program. In addition to a flagship YouTube channel with roughly 5.7 million subscribers, Screen Junkies launched a $4.99-per-month subscription service called Screen Junkies Plus late last year.

In a video announcing the open casting, Screen Junkies hosts and Honest Trailers writers Andy Signore, Dan Murrell, and Spencer Gilbert also introduce viewers to Roth Cornet, who will serve as the new creative lead for Screen Junkies News — the brand’s upcoming entertainment-news division. Screen Junkies News will launch later this year and provide daily, wall-to-wall entertainment coverage. The winner of the talent search will join several other newly-tapped hosts to help round out the nascent channel.

“We’re looking for a fan — someone that loves this as much as we do — that understands, knows their business, and is ready to get out there and have fun with it,” Cornet explains. “Be incisive, be smart, be funny, and deliver the news in a way that is very much in line with the Screen Junkies tone and voice.”
