Description: On the Internet, Roman Atwood is known for the elaborate pranks he pulls, but at home, he’s a family man. Like any other clan, the Atwoods have some traditions of their own, and now, their most-famous member is looking to share his family’s favorite game with his fans. The game is called War and Pieces, and it asks its players to use toy catapults to knock to block-based structures set up by their opponents.
War and Pieces is intended to be a game that appeals to both children and adults, and like any good kid-friendly game, it is easy to pick up and learn. Players use sets of 50 rectangular tiles to build castles of their own design; then, they take turns trying to topple the buildings their opponents have created. Some special tiles aside, that’s pretty much all there is to it.
Instead of thinking up a complex design, Atwood and his partner network Studio71 (which is working with him on the game) are going for simplicity. In his pitch video, Atwood and his family play War and Pieces, and they make sure to have plenty of fun while doing so. The popular prankster, who has always had a knack for extravagant videos, also shows himself frolicking through a life-sized version of the game.
Creator Bio: On YouTube, where he first achieved widespread popularity, Atwood has more than 9.6 million subscribers. He has also recently explored live streaming through regular broadcasts on the Live.me app.
Best Perk: The perks attached to War and Pieces are limited (most of them merely include different versions of the game), but Atwood’s superfans should take note of the $200 offer, through which their names will end up on every game box.
Why You Should Fund It: As Atwood explains in his pitch video, War and Pieces is a game that has been passed down through generations. His father invented it as a kid, and with the help of Roman and his brother, the Atwoods refined their creation over the years. Now, Roman himself is sharing the game with his own sons, and a new version of the game is being born. It’s honestly one of the cutest possible origin stories I can imagine for a tabletop game, but if that doesn’t convince you, the thrills look strong enough here — especially for children — to warrant a contribution.
