The evil monster from another dimension has been defeated, the Byers family has been reunited, and the evil government operatives have been neutralized, but apparently, there are still more Stranger Things to reveal. Netflix has announced that The Duffer Brothers’ nostalgic horror-thriller will return for a second season, which will tell more spooky stories with an 80s tint.
Stranger Things first premiered in July 2016 and drew immediate acclaim, with its loving portrayal of 80s America, its well-composed thrills, and the talent of its young cast standing out as particularly strong points. Buoyed by the positive feedback it received, Stranger Things became the breakout series of the summer of 2016. Parrot Analytics, which measures audience demand for TV shows, noted that only Game of Thrones received more “demand expressions” during the first week of August.
The second season will attempt to build upon the success of Stranger Things’ maiden voyage. According to Variety, the new episodes have been in the works for some time, and their titles can be seen in a new teaser posted on the Netflix YouTube channel. Viewers who will tune into Stranger Things’ encore performance can look forward to installments whose names sound like they were pulled from campire ghost stories: Among other plot points, we’ll learn about “The Secret Cabin,” “The Pollywog,” and “The Boy Who Came Back To Life.”
While the first season of Stranger Things had a fairly definitive ending, there are still some mysteries that linger. Tune in sometime in 2017 to see them unravel.
