Description: If a post-apocalyptic landscape ever emerges, we don’t know exactly how it will look, but according to the vision of Lullskull Ltd., it will look a lot like Michigan. Lullskull and distributor GeekNation have turned to Kickstarter to fund a second season of Northbound, a dire thriller set among the cold environs of the Great Lakes State’s Upper Peninsula.
Northbound follows a few groups of survivors as they attempt to figure out what caused a cataclysmic event that wiped out millions in a single day. This story is centered around Alex, a headstrong father who is looking for answers related to his comatose daughter. The second season of Northbound is part of a greater story called The Northstar Saga, which Lullskull hopes to continue with a feature film.
The Midwestern filmmakers behind Northbound are well-familiar with the terrain of the Upper Peninsula, and in their series, they shape the local snow banks, woods, and rugged hills to serve as both passive backdrops and active obstacles for their characters. “In the end, Michigan itself is a key character in The Northstar Saga, and our team could not imagine a better natural canvas for a story that mixes the primal and the fantastic,” reads the project’s Kickstarter page.
Creator Bio: The three filmmakers who make up the Lullskull team all hail from Minnesota, though two of them — brothers Seth and Nathan Anderson — were raised in Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where Northbound is set. Series distributor GeekNation was founded by a group of Hollywood actors and serves pop culture fans with a selection of news and video content.

Why You Should Fund It: We’ve seen our fair share of cool post-apocalyptic web projects over the years, and they all seem to have a few key elements in common: Detailed settings that house many individual survivor stories, nuanced characters that allow for individual interactions to stand out, and fastidious filmmakers who ensure they get the most possible mileage out of their respective budgets while still exuding plenty of style. The first season of Northbound exhibits all three of those characteristics, and given the polish with which it was produced, we’re excited to see what Lullskull and co. think up next. They’re only a few thousand dollars away from their goal, so with a little help, they’ll be over the hump shortly.
