Arianna Huffington To Depart The Huffington Post

The woman who launched one of the world’s most esteemed digital media brands has decided to move on. Arianna Huffington, who in 2004 founded The Huffington Post, will leave the company to focus on her health and wellness startup Thrive.

Huffington announced her departure from her eponymous publication through an article in the Wall Street Journal. “I really thought I could do both [HuffPo and Thrive], but as we started building [Thrive] up, I realized that it really needed my full attention,” she said. “It is important to know when one door closes and another opens, and I felt that moment had arrived.”

Huffington’s departure from HuffPo follows the exists of several of her deputies over the past year. Roy Sekoff, who had served as one of the co-founders of the HuffPost Live, announced his decision to step down in December 2015. A few weeks later, HuffPo decided to consolidate several of its divisions, with the Live brand ending up as the biggest casualty.
