Fullscreen Plans ‘House Divided,’ A ‘Real World’ For Politics

The upcoming Presidential election has turned the Internet into a highly-charged battleground, and Fullscreen is looking to take advantage of that energy. The digital media company will produce House Divided, a reality series that will bring young people from both sides of the political spectrum to a Washington, D.C. row house for a one-month stay.

According to a Fullscreen rep who spoke to The Washington Post, House Divided will bring a political spin to the format defined by Real World, the MTV reality series that has, for 31 seasons, put teens together in a house and waited for them to display their angst on-screen. In Fullscreen’s version of that setup, there will be no shortage of tension thanks to the political leanings of the eight strangers who with co-habitate the row house. There will liberals, conservatives, and libertarians among the mix, with a diverse spread in terms of both race and gender. “Most of the people in the series are very polarizing,” Fullscreen’s rep told The Washington Post.

House Divided won’t be the first reality series produced by Fullscreen. The studio is also one of the companies involved in @SummerBreak, which uses social media to catalog the lives of teens while they are out of school. Compared to that program, House Divided, which Fullscreen hopes will make a salient point about the nature of political discourse in the United States, is much more high-minded.

Will House Divided succeed as a valuable piece of political commentary? We won’t know for a few more months. The show is set to begin filming on July 20th, with a fall release date (likely prior to Election Day on November 8th) to be specified later on.
