It’s been one month since 49 people were murdered at the gay nightclub Pulse in Orlando, and the reverberations from the tragic event are still being felt in the LGBT community and beyond. The latest tribute to the Pulse victims comes from Interscope Records, which enlisted popular musicians and YouTube stars for a lyric video set to the new song “Hands.”
“Hands,” which was released on July 6th, uses juxtaposed examples to show how the human body can be used for both good and evil. The song was written as a tribute to Orlando, and many of the most popular musicians in the world, including Selena Gomez, Pink, and Britney Spears, contributed to it. The accompanying video, released on Interscope’s YouTube channel on July 12th, features several of those top performers as well as three survivors of the shooting and more than 30 gay, lesbian, trans, and allied YouTube stars. Well-known content creators who use their own hands to display the song’s message include Connor Franta, Gigi Gorgeous, and Kingsley.
The production, release, and promotion of “Hands” is part of a larger campaign launched by Interscope in association with GLAAD. All of the proceeds generated by the track’s sales will benefit the Equality Florida Pulse Victims Fund, the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida, and GLAAD. If you’d like to contribute to those causes, you can pick up “Hands” exclusively through iTunes. Those who are looking to make additional donations to the Pulse Victims Fund can do so through a GoFundMe page set up by Equality Florida.
