During this year’s Democratic primaries, Hillary Clinton lost the youth vote in decisive fashion. As she moves toward the general election, she is now attempting to court the teens and twenty-somethings to her bloc. One way she is appealing to the millennial generation is through online video stars, who had a chance to ask her questions during a town hall event in Los Angeles on June 28th.
The event was curated by Beautycon, which organizes a yearly festival for beauty gurus and their fans. Beautycon brought several top creators in front of the former First Lady, Senator, and Secretary of State for an hour-long question-and-answer session moderated by YouTube beauty star Dulce Candy. In total, according to The Hollywood Reporter, 100 digital media personalities event. Participating creators included Rachel Levin, Alexa Losey, and Jenn McAllister, and the discussion touched on topics like immigration, LGBT rights, and, of course, Donald Trump.
A video version of the town hall has been posted to Clinton’s official YouTube channel. A group selfie from the event can be found on the Twitter feed of Raymond Braun, a vlogger who has been actively involved in Clinton’s 2016 campaign.
We’ve been predicting for a while that Clinton would turn to the highly-influential members of the online video community as a way to boost her cred among young voters, and the recent town hall serves as her most concerted effort in that area so far. Perhaps she’ll continue to work with digital stars; meanwhile, her Republican opponent doesn’t seem to have any relationship with that community at all — unless you count his bombastic Twitter feed.
Beautycon’s next festival will take place on July 9th at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Tickets for that event are still available.
