Gunpowder & Sky, Supergravity Pictures To Co-Produce Feature-Length Skater Slasher

Digital-first studios Gunpowder & Sky and Supergravity Pictures are teaming together on a feature-length thriller about a small-town skate crew whose obsession with becoming Internet-famous leads to unrelenting horror, the companies announced today. This marks the first co-production between the two studios — though Gunpowder & Sky was an early investor in Supergravity. A release date has yet to be announced.

Jerome Sable (pictured above, right) will direct the as-yet-untitled slasher film based on a script he is writing with Nicholas Musurca (left). The two previously collaborated on a Sundance award-winning horror musical called The Legend of Beaver Dam, as well as V Is For Vacation, a short about a wild boys trip that turns deadly over Skype.

“Twisted, talented, and visually compelling directors like Jerome don’t pop up very often,” said Gunpowder & Sky CEO Van Toffler in a statement. “He’s a mash-up of Wes Craven, Justin Lin, and John Carney in the best way possible, and we’re elated to be making his feature.” Added Supergravity co-founder Max Benator: “Jerome and Nick are brilliant storytellers. The fact that we get to collaborate with all of them on this truly demented film project is just a total treat.” (Full disclosure: Supergravity co-founder Marc Hustvedt

Gunpowder & Sky, which was launched last January by Toffler and former Endemol exec Floris Bauer, announced its first production in March: another horror film based on the zombie road trip novel Eat, Brains, Love. The studio is also working on a film called DC Trip about a high school trip to the White House gone awry.

Supergravity, for its part, has greenlit Rock Steady Row by first-time feature director Trevor Stevens about a college freshman who must take action against fraternities and the dean after his bike is stolen. The company has also recently branched out with a talent management division called Red Sun Entertainment, as well as its brand new Antigravity marketing arm.
