Google Reportedly Offering Free Chromecasts To Certain YouTube Red Subscribers

In a bid to sweeten the deal for prospective YouTube Red subscribers, Google is reportedly offering free Chromecast devices to those who purchase the service.

Only certain recent YouTube Red subscribers have received the email offer thus far, according to BGR, which states that the offer is available through June 19 and has “no strings attached, just a little treat for being one of the first people to join the party.”

Chromecast, a dongle priced at $35, enables users to stream mobile videos on their television sets. “We hear YouTube Red members love being able to watch ad-free videos on TV,” Google writes in the email obtained by BGR, “so we thought we’d help you get started.” Through June 17, YouTube is also currently offering the first three months of a YouTube Red subscription for 99 cents.

On an earnings calls last month, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that YouTube Red was “resonating well with users,” and that 15 to 20 more original content projects are slated to arrive on the service in 2016. The most recent additions include College Humor’s Bad Internet, as well as Sing It!, an American Idol spoof created by Fine Brothers Entertainment.
