Indie Spotlight: ‘On-Going’ Travels The World The Low-Budget Way

We receive a ton of tips every day from independent creators, unaffiliated with any major motion picture studios, television networks, new media studios, or other well-funded online video entities. The Indie Spotlight is where we’ll write about and shout out to a select few of them and bring you up to speed on the great (and sometimes not-so-great) attention-grabbing series you probably haven’t heard about until now. Read previous installments here.

How do you host a travel show without making your viewers jealous of your ability to roam about the world? Matilde Keizer has figured out a strong answer to that question. Keizer is the host of On-Going, in which she goes on an adventure that feels both accessible and exhilarating.

On-Going follows Keizer as she travels from her hometown of Rome to a number of destinations in Southeast Asia. At each stop, she hangs out with the locals, tries some authentic cuisine, and records a full slate of sightseeing and activities. Her travelogues are punctuated with light humor and plenty of charisma, and On-Going is therefore an easy series to watch and enjoy. There’s plenty of information to soak up, too; in her latest video, Keizer travels into rural Indonesia and ends up in the small town of Bukit Lawang, which lies close to Gunung Leuser National Park

Its charm aside, the best thing On-Going has going for it is its single-camera DIY approach. Keizer’s travels don’t feel at all beyond the means of a typical viewer, and that makes her series a useful one for her viewers. On-Going is unafraid to venture of the beaten path, and more than that, it relishes the smaller pleasures of world exploration, which are attainable for travelers of any budget.

For updates, stay tuned to the On-Going Facebook page.
