18-year-old Lauren Giraldo, who has 3.3 million followers on Vine, is returning to her hometown. The Miami native will serve as a producer for a docu-series set in South Florida that will explore the area’s Latino culture.
The series doesn’t yet have a name, official release date, or distribution platform, but details about its production team are clear. Giraldo will create the series alongside Covert Media, a studio launched last August out of a partnership between film exec Paul Hanson and Media Content Capital. Covert’s Saul Goldberg will serve as one of the project’s executive producers alongside Giraldo and Clayton Santillo, who represents the Vine star through Scale Management. “I couldn’t think of a better team to work with on a project that hits so close to home,” said Giraldo
.While she is best known as a Vine star, Giraldo has also built up sizable followings on platforms like YouTube and Instagram, and in producing her upcoming docu-series, she will turn to her followers help. She will ask her fans to submit one-minute biographics discussing themselves and their connections to Miami’s Latino culture.
When the docu-series (which is currently casting) does eventually see release, it could help Giraldo break onto a new platform. According to Variety, Covert is hoping to distribute the program on a cable TV channel.
