Vlogbrothers, PBS Digital Studios Roll Out Physics Edition Of Crash Course

Hank and John Green, collectively known as the Vlogbrothers, have unveiled a new subject for their “students.” The two creators have once again teamed up with PBS Digital Studios to produce new episodes of the educational web series Crash Course. This time, the topic in question is physics, and the host is British engineer Dr. Shini Somara.

Dr. Somara, a “STEM advocate” who has hosted programs for the BBC, Al Jazeera America, and several other networks, uses an energetic delivery to add some excitement to her area of expertise. In her first Crash Course episode, she spends ten minutes discussing fundamental physics concepts like velocity and acceleration.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Shini Somara to the PBS Digital Studios family,” said Don Wilcox, VP of Digital Marketing and Services at PBS, in a press release. “Dr. Somara’s passion and experience make her a wonderful addition to our great roster of science hosts at Digital Studios. We hope our hosts’ enthusiasm encourages young audiences who might be contemplating a future in STEM and inspires them to pursue their dream careers.”

This is the third Crash Course series born from the collaboration between the Vlogbrothers and PBS Digital Studios. In 2014, the two producers enlisted Craig Benzine (aka WheezyWaiter) to talk about US government, and they tapped Phil Plait to host a unit on astronomy.

Vlogbrothers fans who wish to see more Crash Course episodes can help the series out by supporting it on Patreon, where it is assisted by 6,500 backers who collectively contribute more than $28,000 per month.
