Troye Sivan Nabs First Top 40 Single As ‘Youth’ Rockets Up Billboard Hot 100

Singer-songwriter Troye Sivan, who launched his music career on YouTube, is officially smashing mainstream singles sales charts.

Sivan just nabbed his first Top 40 hit with ‘Youth’, a cut from his debut album Blue Neighborhood, which rocketed from 58 to 23 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100 chart. This is the peak position for ‘‘Youth’ after seven weeks on the Hot 100, which ranks songs according to radio airplay, sales, and streaming activity.

Billboard says that ‘Youth’ had the biggest gain in digital sales last week with a total of 56,000 downloads sold — likely helped by the fact that the song was put on sale for 69 cents on iTunes. At the same time, ‘Youth’ was streamed 4.8 million times and amassed a radio audience of 12.8 million. On YouTube

, the one-month-old ‘Youth’ video has racked up more than 9 million views.

Sivan also counts three top-10 album entries on the Billboard 200 Albums chart. His 2014 debut EP TRXYE debuted at number 5, followup Wild debuted at number 5 last September, and December’s Blue Neighborhood premiered at number 7.

Sivan, who is about to embark on a European tour in support of Blue Neighborhood, has promoted ‘Youth’ on The Tonight Show and Today, and recently released an acoustic version of the track as well as a behind-the-scenes look at the music video shoot.
