AwesomenessFilms Strikes Deal To Adapt YA-Fiction Book Series Called ‘Replica’

With its teenage audience squarely in its mind, Awesomeness Films has its eyes on the world of young adult fiction, and it has just struck a deal through which it will adapt a pair of upcoming YA books. The movie production arm of digital network AwesomenessTV has announced its acquisition of the film rights to Replica, the upcoming first novel in a duology written by Lauren Oliver.

Replica, published by HarperCollins will feature the same sci-fi underpinnings used by popular YA franchises like Divergent and The Maze Runner. It will focus on a young protagonist named Lyra whose life takes a dramatic turn when she escapes from the secret research facility where she was born and raised and meets a girl named Gemma. Both the upcoming book (which will be released on October 4th) and the greater duology that contains it are titled Replica; release details about the second book in the series aren’t yet known.

By adapting Replica, Awesomeness Films and Oliver will continue a partnership that began last year. In September 2015, the studio announced its plan to create a film version of Before I Fall, a bestselling novel written by Oliver. Six weeks later, Awesomeness Films revealed five additions to the Before I Fall cast, including social media star Kian Lawley. The film is currently in post-production and is expected to arrive sometime in 2016, though its exact release date is currently unknown.

“Lauren has the ability to create worlds that speak to the young adult audience on a personal and lasting level,” said Awesomeness Films President Matt Kaplan in a press release. “We look forward to continuing to build on our exciting relationship with HarperCollins and Lauren, which began with Before I Fall.”

Awesomeness Films’ press release did not share any casting or release details for its Replica adaptation.
