FremantleMedia To Bring Lisa Kudrow’s ‘Web Therapy’ To Spain

The next stop on the long, multi-platform journey of Web Therapy will be in Spain. According to Deadline, the web series-turned-TV show will come to Spanish shores thanks to a partnership between FremantleMedia and digital TV platform Movistar+.

Web Therapy stars Lisa Kudrow as Fiona Wallace, a therapist who conducts her sessions over video chat and demonstrates a complete lack of self-awareness. The Spanish version will feature the same setup, but with local actors filling in the show’s principal roles. It will be distributed on #0, a new channel from Movistar+.

FremantleMedia picked up Web Therapy’s international distribution rights back in 2011, but it made no significant overseas moves with the series until four years later, when a Polish version premiered on a digital platform called Player.pl. The Spanish version of the show will be FremantleMedia’s second international adaptation of it.

Web Therapy began as a web series on Lexus’ Lstudio platform before moving to TV for a four-season stint on Showtime. Parallel to its TV run, it has remained on the web. Its latest season premiered through StyleHaul, which is connected to FremantleMedia; Fremantle’s parent company, RTL Group, also owns a controlling stake in the fashionable multi-channel network.

The Spanish version of Web Therapy is expected to premiere sometime in February. It will run for 16 episodes.
