YouTube’s Action Movie Kid Headed To Big Screen

Four-year-old James Hashimoto is a big hit on YouTube, and his star will soon extend to the big screen. Hashimoto, better known as the Action Movie Kid, is the inspiration for a film that will be produced by Temple Hill and distributed by Fox 2000, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In the Action Movie Kid videos, which have accrued more than 155 million views on YouTube, Hashimoto’s around-the-house activities are elevated to epic levels thanks to the special-effects skills of his father Daniel, a DreamWorks animator. Daniel’s technical wizardry turns his son into a science-fiction troublemaker who still manages to be extremely cute at the same time.

The Action Movie Kid film will adapt James’ digital persona for a theatrical setting. It will be written by Andrew Dodge, who penned the 2013 Jason Bateman film Bad Words.

The film will not be the first off-YouTube venture for Action Movie Kid. In 2015, the elder Hashimoto and Mandy Richardville penned an eponymous children’s book, which was published by Simon & Schuster. Evan also directed his son in a Toys R’ Us ad campaign that arrived in 2014.

No additional casting information for the Action Movie Kid film has yet been revealed. The film’s release date is also unknown at this time.
