John Boyega Goes From ‘Star Wars’ To A Nickelodeon Web Series

One of the best storylines from within the success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been the rise of the film’s two stars, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega. Ridley and Boyega were both relative unknowns before embarking on their galactic adventure, but their respective performances have allowed them to gain worldwide renown.

The only question left is what they’ll do next, and for Boyega, the answer is a bit unusual. The British actor has lent his voice to an animated Nickelodeon web series called Tinkershrimp & Dutch, which will premiere on January 15th.

In Tinkershrimp & Dutch, Boyega and Darren Evans voice, respectively, a slow loris and a langoustine who travel through time in a vehicle that is half-castle, half-double decker bus. It sounds like a fairly odd premise, but there’s a lot of talent involved here; as Indiewire notes, the series is scored by Nick McCarthy, the guitarist of the band Franz Ferdinand.

Tinkershrimp & Dutch is the first original web series from Nickelodeon UK, though the channel’s American counterpart has unloaded a number of digital programs. “Tinkershrimp & Dutch is hilarious with brilliant characters and ingenious storytelling” said Suzie Adams, Digital Director Nickelodeon UK and Ireland. “We want to delight and surprise our audience and are committed to providing great content across all platforms. Tinkershrimp & Dutch is an example of our investment in high-quality entertainment for the digital space.”

It’s a little bit funny to see Boyega go from the lead role in the biggest blockbuster of the year to the voice of a talking animal, but let’s give Nickelodeon UK credit for taking its web content seriously. Parents within the British Isles should be curious to check out Tinkershrimp & Dutch once it arrives on the 15th.
