Refinery29’s powerful voice has made it a preferred destination for its Millennial, female audience, and in 2015, the lifestyle publication will expand its reach through a slate of original videos that will fittingly span 29 different series.
Refinery29 discussed its online video plans at its first ever Newfronts presentation, where its executives shared the publication’s plan to distribute 2,000 “video assets” in 2015. This production push will be assisted by the $50 million Series D funding round Refinery29 announced one day before its Newfronts pitch.
With the help of Amy Emmerich, who it hired as its EVP of Programming in January 2015, Refinery29 has moved into video with a handful of original series (such as Style Out There) and a complement of virtual reality projects released on Samsung’s Milk VR platform. As with those videos, Refinery29’s new programs will come from a group of creators Emmerich calls “badass, bold women.” “We’re going to put women first,” she stated.

The bold women who Emmerich touted include a number of familiar faces. YouTube stars Evelina Barry and Jenn Im will have their own Refinery29 series, as will notable studios like World of Wonder and New Form Digital.
“We are excited to expand upon our winning foundation of style and how-to videos by creating content that is for, by, or about women,” said Emmerich. “Our 2015 video slate will roll out premium programming with award winning creative talent, that puts women first, elevates her every day, and inspires her to challenge convention.”
