Netflix Shares Dark Trailer For Marvel’s “Daredevil”

Gritty reboots are typically closer to DC’s territory than Marvel‘s, but with its newest show, Stan Lee’s studio will show it can get dark, too. Netflix has released the trailer for Daredevil, a superhero series that will arrive on the streaming video on-demand platform on April 10th.

Daredevil centers on the titular character, who is blind but possesses superhuman abilities in his other four senses. During the day, he is a lawyer named Matt Murdock. At night, he turns into a crime fighter who strives to clean up New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood. Of course, that particular part of the city has much less of a need for a masked crime fighter in 2015 than it did in 1964, when Lee first created the character of Daredevil, but that’s just splitting hairs.

The trailer for Netflix’s adaptation of this story shows a low-lit New York City that suits Daredevil’s lack of sight. It’s gritty-looking stuff for sure, with plenty of acrobatic fight sequences and explosions thrown in for good measure.

Charlie Cox, known for his role in Boardwalk Empire, will portray Murdock. The supporting cast, which includes the likes of Vincent D’Onofrio and Rosario Dawson, is brimming with talent as well.

Daredevil‘s first season will arrive in its entirety on April 10th. It’s the first of four planned Netflix series based around individual Marvel superheroes; the other three will feature Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. As the first Marvel series to see release on Netflix, Daredevil will set the tone for the platform’s collaboration with the superhero studio. At the very least, it will be able to top previous screen versions of the comic.
