Yahoo Uses Tumblr-Friendly Format To Tell TV Fans What To Watch

On its TV-focused vertical, Yahoo offers articles, photos, and videos for curious viewers. Now, thanks to a new offering, Yahoo TV will synergize with one of the online media corporation’s other properties. Yahoo has announced the Yahoo TV Digital Magazine, which pairs nicely with blogging site Tumblr.

On the new Yahoo TV site, which is laid out in a grid-like fashion, visitors can find lists, recaps, previews, and other news items related to the most popular shows on TV. Here, for example, is a behind-the-scenes look at the final episode of Parks and Recreation, which aired on NBC on February 24th:

As Variety notes, the visual design of the Yahoo TV Digital Magazine is a nice fit for Tumblr, which Yahoo acquired in May 2013 for $1.1 billion. Since that deal closed, we’ve heard rumors that Yahoo will use the blogging site to compete with YouTube, but even if that plan is never realized, the Yahoo TV redesign takes a step toward making Tumblr an all-encompassing entertainment destination.

Yahoo has tapped Kristen Baldwin as the editor-in-chief of the new digital magazine. Baldwin joined Yahoo from Entertainment Weekly in September 2014, and her staff at Yahoo TV includes several of her former EW colleagues, including TV critic Ken Tucker and deputy editor Mandi Bierly.

Content from the Yahoo TV digital magazine can also be found on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. “The Golden Age of TV is upon us, and we couldn’t be happier,” reads a blog post from Yahoo. “Enjoy the new Yahoo TV Magazine!”
