Twitch is moving game streaming from the digital world to real life. The live streaming video platform popular among gamers, which was purchased by Amazon in 2014 for $970 million, has announced its first-ever TwitchCon, a convention that will take place in San Francisco from September 25-26, 2015.
Co-produced by event organizing company ReedPOP, TwitchCon aims to bring the Twitch community together under one roof. A company blog post puts heavy emphasis on gamers, streamers, and viewers mingling and learning together: “TwitchCon will be an interactive convention for broadcasters and viewers alike to meet each other, learn how to take your Twitch game to the next level, and play together.” The event will also boast live content and sessions with thought leaders in the gaming and streaming communities.
“Twitch broadcasters have the most passionate fans, so we want to create an amazing experience where they can come together in person,” said Emmett Shear, Twitch’s CEO. “TwitchCon will be an opportunity for the entire community – broadcasters, game developers, viewers, and us – to play and learn together.”
TwitchCon will be held at San Francisco’s Moscone Center. More information about the event (such as tickets and schedule) will be announced on later dates.
