Another one of SourceFed‘s original hosts is moving on. Joe Bereta, who, along with Lee Newton and Elliott Morgan, made up as the first wave of on-screen personalities on the witty news channel, will leave his post at the end of the year in order to become Creative Director at Defy Media.
Bereta announced his departure from SourceFed in a blog post on his personal website. In the post, Bereta showed some love for his SourceFed coworkers while explaining his decision in the most Joe Bereta way possible:
“I am EXTREMELY proud of everything we’ve accomplished here on the SourceFed channel and I am overflowing with warmth for all of my co-workers and all of the gracious viewers kind enough to watch our videos. Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart, for laughing and learning with me for the last three years. From VidCon to DeFranco Does and white wall videos to Table Talks, these will be some of my most cherished professional and creative memories. But it’s time for a risk. I joined SourceFed because I was at a place in my life where I felt a burning down in my yearn-spot. I desired something different. I needed a change. So, I took a risk. And it worked out splendidly. That burning sensation is back. Don’t worry, I consulted a doctor and the doctor said there wasn’t anything wrong with me and insisted that I leave his home immediately and said that if I ever need his professional opinion again, I should schedule an appointment at his office like a normal human person.”

SourceFed reposted Bereta’s announcement on its own website. “It’s safe to say that it’s a sad day here in the office, but we’re so incredibly proud of Joe going on to do so many amazingly wonderful things,” adds SourceFed’s post. “You better believe that he will be back, often and soon! Don’t you worry, this isn’t a “goodbye.” Just a simple, extremely heartfelt, “see you later.” WE LOVE YOU, JOE BERETA!”
Bereta also announced his decision on-camera in a recent episode of the Comment Commentary series:
At Defy Media, where Bereta will begin working in January, he will “create new shows across all their brands and work closely with Smosh on exciting new comedy projects,” according to his post. Beyond Smosh, other channels in the Defy network include Break, Screen Junkies, AWEme, and Clevver.
Before joining SourceFed, Bereta wrote and starred in sketch comedy videos as one-half of Barats and Bereta. I mostly wrote that line to give me an excuse to share “Man vs. Toddler” here.
Bereta is the fourth SourceFed host to leave the show in 2014. In April, Meg Turney and Morgan departed the program; Turney ended up joining the team at Rooster Teeth, while Morgan launched a web series on his personal channel. A few months later, Ross Everett said his goodbyes in order to focus on The New Show with Discovery Digital Networks. The six remaining SourceFed hosts are Newton, Trisha Hershberger, Steve Zaragoza, William Haynes, Matt Lieberman, and Reina Scully.
