Adult Swim Looks To Cash In On “Too Many Cooks” Success

It’s been six weeks since Adult Swim first released “Too Many Cooks.” The 11-minute satire of 80s television openings has since drawn more than five million views and earned itself a gold title of its own on YouTube. With the holiday season in full swing, Adult Swim is looking to make a quick buck off its popular YouTube video with a line of t-shirts inspired by it.

There are three official “Too Many Cooks” shirts available through 80sTees: One features the show’s logo, a second shows puppet/robot/last victim standing Smarf, and a third portrays the video’s murderous main character. All three are available in adult sizes for $20.

Adult Swim’s efforts to make the most out of “Too Many Cooks” aren’t limited to retail. The latest installment of the channel’s Infomercials series recently arrived on YouTube, and it has several stylistic similarities to “Too Many Cooks.” The video is titled “Unedited Footage of a Bear,” but it ultimately has very little to do with nature and very much to do with drug side effects and abject horror.

While it’s not at five million views yet, “Unedited Footage of a Bear” has done very well for Adult Swim. In three days, it has scored more than 750,000 views, making it the most popular installment of Infomercials to date. At some point, the “Too Many Cooks” effect will wear off, but until then, Adult Swim is primed to rack up millions of views while selling a few t-shirts along the way.
