YouTube is chock-full of young viewers, many of whom are reaching important milestones in their lives like attending college. That’s why Jenn McAllister (better known as JennXPenn) partnered with OurTime.org to encourage all 18-year-olds to register and start voting.
Having just turned 18 herself, Jenn created one of her signature list videos where she outlines five things viewers can do once they turn 18. In addition to getting tattoos and leasing a house, she tells recently-inducted young adults to research issues important to them and register to vote on OurTime.org. She then tells her viewers to take that final (yet vital) last step of voting. As she reasons it, you wouldn’t let other people choose the color of your hair or what you’ll watch on Netflix.
OurTime.org’s collaboration with JennXPenn marks the first time the site has partnered with a digital celebrity to encourage millennials to vote. In addition to the YouTuber, OurTime has tapped social media star and ex-Star Trek actor George Takei. Through the two creators, OurTime hopes to get over 250,000 young adults registered before the 2014 midterm elections.
Partnered with both AwesomenessTV and Fullscreen in a unique “network agnostic” deal, JennXPenn should see her voting message spread far. She boasts over 1.5 million YouTube subscribers, and also just appeared at Fullscreen’s INTOUR on September 13.
