Machinima Becomes Second YouTube Channel To Reach Five Billion Views

Move over, Rihanna: You have company in the five billion views club. The main channel of the Machinima network has reached an amazing milestone, becoming just the second channel on YouTube to achieve five billion views.

Machinima’s rise has been a steady, consistent one. The channel launched its first video on September 10, 2007, and it has been leveling up since then. Machinima’s existence within a popular YouTube category (gaming) has served as an important advantage, but the company’s status as a multi-channel network has also given it access to both licensed videos (such as movie trailers) and user-generated content sourced from its network partners, such as this extremely popular Minecraft video from the Nerdcubed channel.

This combination has proven to be a powerful one, and when combined with a diligent upload schedule (the channel has hosted more than 24,600 videos to date), it has powered Machinima’s rise. It took Machinima 2,487 days to go from 0 to five billion, which breaks down to more than two million views each day, 83,769 each hour, 1,396 each minute, and 23 each second.

Machinima and Rihanna will not be alone in the five billion views club for long, as another gaming channel is hot on Machinima’s heels. 24-year-old Swedish gamer PewDiePie currently sits at 4.96 billion views, and if current trends hold, he will reach five million and pass Machinima in a couple days. Of course, that shouldn’t take anything away from Machinima. Five billion is an unbelievable number, and the team at YouTube’s largest gaming network should be very proud of their achievement.
