Last summer, AT&T and Peter Chernin took a gamble on @SummerBreak, a reality series that unfolded across social media networks. Now that school is out once again, @SummerBreak is coming back, with a new group of teens chronicling their respective summer vacations.
@SummerBreak‘s YouTube channel provides a main hub through which regular episodes will be released, but the stars of the show are the social media accounts of the participating teenagers. As the teens blast out a constant stream of updates through Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Vine, and other networks, their fans engage with them and turn @SummerBreak into an interactive experience. The first season claimed 10 million hits across all of its relevant social media networks. This time around, @SummerBreak will also run on SnapChat and Tumblr in its attempt to exhaustively catalog the lives of its young stars.
Last season’s @SummerBreak cast was a carefully-selected group of nine Los Angeles teenagers. This year’s group is a mixed bag, with some cast members returning from season one and a few other new people joining the fun. A recently released trailer informs viewers that “This Summer Will Be Unforgettable”.
@SummerBreak is produced by Astronauts Wanted, the studio that is run by former MTV CEO Judy McGrath. The series’ fans will get their first opportunities to interact with the new cast when the series returns on June 24th. Until then, they can prep by following all ten of the participating teens on Twitter.
