BBC America’s ‘Almost Royal’ Taps YouTube Stars For A Web Companion

On June 21, BBC America will debut Almost Royal, a comedy series about two low-level British aristocrats who go on a tour of the United States. In advance of that debut date, BBC America has turned to the YouTube community for Almost Royal Goes to YouTube, a web companion that features eight different YouTubers.

Almost Royal Goes to YouTube was filmed at YouTube Space LA and lives on BBC America’s YouTube channel. Each installment features a conversation  between protagonists Poppy and Georgie Carlton (played by Amy Hoggart and Ed Gamble, respectively) and a specific YouTuber. In one episode, DJ Flula teaches the “royal” siblings how to construct a freestyle rap.

Other YouTubers featured on Almost Royal Goes To YouTube include Camp Takota stars Grace Helbig, Mamrie Hart, and Hannah Hart. At least three more episodes will arrive before Almost Royal‘s TV debut, as Chester See, Kingsley, and Strawburry17 will each get a chance to share their secrets with Poppy and George.

For those who aren’t interested in web companions, the BBC America channel is offering up the first full-length episode of Almost Royal. Thanks to the show’s online campaign, YouTube fans are likely to tune in when Almost Royal hits the air in earnest on June 21st.
