Reckless Tortuga Series Among New Debuts On Starz’s Union Pool Channel

Last September, Starz Digital Media launched Union Pool, a comedy channel through which it has expanded its online video profile. Six months later, there are two new series coming through the Union Pool pipeline, including one from veteran YouTube sketch troupe Reckless Tortuga.

“Union Pool has been so well-received over the past seven months that we are expanding our programming with more original content,” said Mara Winokur, SVP of Digital for Starz Digital Media, in a release. “Tvoovies has proven to be extremely popular and we look forward to offering more diverse content for our viewers.”

Reckless Tortuga, who have more than one million subscribers on YouTube and recently launched a Kickstarter campaign for their series The Online Gamer, will helm Popcorn Addicts, which will debut on April 15th. As with several other Union Pool series, Popcorn Addicts satirizes movies and TV, thus taking a page out of the book of Starz’s most popular YouTube series, How It Should Have Ended. The trailer gives us a look at a few of these parodies, including a Reckless Tortuga take on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D that follows the agents’ assistants.

The other new series on Union Pool is Llama Cop, a self-explanatory series about a crime-fighting llama that will debut on April 1st. The trailer for that one gives off a definite Baby Mentalist vibe, as it brings the same sort of absurdity to the police force. It looks great–though it will have to be nearly perfect if its titular character wants to become the greatest llama on YouTube.
