During last year’s Digital Content Newfronts, Robert DeNiro‘s Tribeca Enterprises venture announced a partnership with Maker Studios. After almost one year of waiting, that channel has finally arrived in the form of The Picture Show, which features Maker talent and a cinematic focus.
The first video on the channel features a pair of Maker Studios creators, Mary Doodles and Dante Cimadamore of Give Me Motion. Mary uses her elite stop-motion sketch skills to create a huge collage of the history of film, while Dante drops a bumpin’ track on top of the video.
Mary and Dante’s guest appearance, however, is just an appetizer. The real focus of The Picture Show is movie-focused comedy, as evidenced by the debut episode of the channel’s first original series, Remix the Movies. Jurassic Park makes yet another appearance in its recent YouTube blitz, but the tyrannical dinosaurs take a back seat to a tyrannical director, whose absurd bullying of a pair of child actors produces some mildly funny results.
The partnership with Tribeca will allow The Picture Show to pull in some of New York City’s top talent. A future series will include work from the Upright Citizens Brigade, the improv troupe whose members also make frequent appearances on Above Average. A future episode of Remix the Movies will also continue to bring in Maker talent; a press release claims “President Obama” is involved, which is a clear tell that Maker creator Alphacat will make an appearance. Given the powerful marriage that bore it, look for The Picture Show to become one of YouTube’s most popular movie comedy destinations.
