IMPORTANT: ‘VGR’ Creator Matt Lewis Needs Our Help

Web series creator Matt Lewis, known for his popular gamer comedy for Atom/Comedy Central Video Game Reunion is in need of our help. The 31 year-old creator is currently in the hospital battling for his life after coming down with a rare blood disease called Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH). The condition requires regular blood transfusions and ultimately requires a bone marrow transplant from a matching donor.

When I learned of this, I instantly thought about how as a web video community we can help. The online creative community that we are a part of counts Matt as one of our bright spots of talent. And if ever there was a time for community service, this is it guys. Even if you’re a little queasy around blood (like me) it’s time to suck it up and lend a hand.

Right now there are two ways that you can help:

1. Head to a local blood bank (The American Red Cross has a good resource page) and ask to donate under Matt Lewis’ name. You’ll need to mention his date of birth (11/4/1979) and that he is at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Los Angeles. By donating one pint of blood in his name, it frees up one pint that can be given to him for much-needed blood transfusions.

2. Register with Be the Match to see if you are a possible match for a Bone Marrow transplant that could save his life. They will send you a free cheek swab kit in the mail that is simple and easy to do.

As of now, these are the two ways that people should direct their support for Matt during this tough time. If there are additional methods set up in the future, we’ll update and let you know. Thank you for support. The internet can be a really big place sometimes and it’s times like these that we are reminded how human we all are.

And while you’re giving blood, why not check out his well-received 14-episode comedy Video Game Reunion, which is now fully released on Atom.com and GameTrailers.com:
