Online video contest site Filmaka and ready-to-eat TV dinner maker Hungry-Man are inviting web series creators to “redefine a modern classic” with a new pitch competition.
Building off of Hungry-Man’s recently launched online campaign, in which “Hungry Heroes” Hungry da Vinci, Hungry Genghis, and Hungry Davy have time-traveled to the modern world to search for the mysterious Steve Hungryman, the contest is seeking creators to submit a pitch to create six 60 to 120 second videos featuring one of the three Hungry Heroes in a “present-day, real-life, “on the street” situation.”
Hungry-Man is looking for a writer-director who can send one of the three Hungry Heroes on an adventure in the modern world. From the Filmaka contest page:
The films should allow for some ad-lib by being scenario-based, a la Borat, Ali G and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Our heroes will go to real events in the real world and encounter real (non-actor) people, while still in character.
Creators are encouraged to incorporate current events—like sporting events or national conventions (like CES in Vegas)—into the videos. Pitches are expected to outline 5 to 10 situations as stand alone vignettes (not a continuing storyline) with Hungry-Man brand integrated into the scene. Other required information includes a budget, proposed locations, and an online demo reel or samples of previous work. There is also a list of “do nots” that is mostly based on common sense; they are not looking for the next creators of a Jackass
spin-off.Authors of the selected pitches will receive $30,000 in production funding to bring the pitch to reality, along with use of one of the Hungry Heroes professional actors (fees paid for by Hungry-Man), a $10,000 cash prize, and consideration of the finished project for use in the Hungry-Man national online campaign on Facebook and YouTube.
Deadline to upload is November 22, 2010. In December one winning pitch will be selected per character, with production taking place in January and February 2011. Series will begin release in March.
