ActiveVideo enables the creation of an interactive TV environment using standard remote controls allowing viewers to stream web content on digital set-top boxes and web-connected consumer electronics devices.
“While the wealth of content on the web is appealing to viewers, the adoption of flat-screen devices over the past several years shows that people still place a high value on watching great content on the television set,” ActiveVideo Networks VP business development Duncan Campbell said. “By working with blip.tv, we can help service providers and CE manufacturers differentiate themselves by powering personal televisions with some of the best original content on the web.”
While specific shows have not yet been determined, sources familiar with the deal said, they will be unique and localized for each MSO and programs will be able to opt-in to the syndication opportunity if they desire.
Blip hosts and distributes independent web programming that includes original scripted series and dramas, news and how-to shows in addition to syndicated Web offerings that appear on iTunes, AOL Video and Facebook. It hosts programming produced by Michael Eisner’s Tornante Co., 60Frames and more. Blip also was selected by Michael Moore as the primary distribution platform for his film Slacker Uprising.
