Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane’s much hyped, expensive, Burger King-sponsored Calvalcade of Cartoon Comedy launched as promised today with two new shorts.
They’re like an average episode of Family Guy, forced through an internet sieve that collects MacFarlane’s characteristic gag-based brand of humor and leaves Peter and company behind on traditional TV.
The Griffins take with them the setups for their pop culture-laden anecdotes (“Louis, remember that time the dog was on $25,000 Pyramid?”), but they’re easily replaced with simple title cards that provide context for the situation (“A Dog on the $25,000 Pyrmaid”).
Funny, though predictable if you’ve been a fan of (or forced to endure) Family Guy episodes. But, like I said before, without having to adhere to a cumbersome story line and given the freedom to produce one random, interchangeable joke after another, Cavalcade of Comedy is perfectly suited for the web.
50 total installments will be released over the next 10 weeks, though Liz reports that if they do really well, there could be 50 more.
You can catch the first 10 on Burger King’s YouTube channel (the fast food chain has only sponsored that many episodes) and watch them all on MacFarlane’s own YouTube Channel and SethComedy.com.
