Speaking of stories, both good and bad, here’s some advice on how to tell them.
In a vintage interview
Eliot found from way back in Fall of 2006, Ira Glass – whose kinda nasal, calmly, cadenced voice has told fascinating tales across radio waves for the better part of three decades – edifies Current producers and viewers on the age old art of storytelling.
So, good stories = anecdotes + bait + reflection. Is that all? Coming from the mouth of a sage of the medium, it seems so simple! But obviously easier said than done.
Another surefire way to tell good stories that Ira forgot to mention would be to somehow incorporate Ira Glass into your storytelling. That man could describe himself reading pages from the phone book and I’d be riveted. Get him to relate anything mildly interesting on top of some entertaining visuals, and you got a bona fide hit on your hands.
