Wired Gears Up for Video

When a study released by the Bivings Group this September showed that the number of top 50 US magazines by circulation offering video features jumped from 34% in 2006 to 60% in 2007, you’d think that Wired, although not included in the research, would’ve followed the trend. It’d make sense for a techno-utopian magazine that covers the intersection of science, culture, and cool to also be at the cutting edge of online video. But such was not the case. In fact, Wired’s just now getting started.

NewTeeVee reports that the magazine has hired Annaliza Savage – former producer of John C. Dvorak’s techie talk show, Cranky Geeks (Tilzy.TV page) – to design and jumpstart a brand new video department.  The announcement is one of a few recently made by the NewTeeVee team in the “these entities who you would’ve thought already had shows are getting shows” category. At their

live event, digital entertainment studio DECA publicized its lineup of content partners including Peter Rojas of Engadget and the SuicideGirls, among other more established names on the web video block.

No word on what type of content to expect from Wired Video, but for now you can watch repurposed clips from the PBS series Wired Science. Below, scientists make sure that at least the hardware side of Major League Baseball isn’t juiced.
