While the Writers are Away, Ze Frank Will Play

Since Ze Frank’s (Tilzy.TV page) March 17, 2007 departure from his daily, yearlong video blog adventure, sports racers and general fans of online video have been wondering when their favorite male vlogger would return to their computer screens.

In the eight months after the New York native left the boroughs of the Big Apple for the shinier glitter of the Hollywood stars to opine on paper instead of on camera, he’s regularly updated his website with tumblr-like links accompanied by quick comments and even an nostalgia-inducing, insta-classic little ditty. Then yesterday he posted a video.

His return wasn’t how Nick Douglas expected, with chariots and trumpets and angels, but was instead heralded by the

strike of the Writer’s Guild of America, of which Ze is presumably a member.

### It’s good to have him back in nearly the same cleverly eloquent, consciously hip form in which he left, even though the reprisal looks like it will be short-lived. On his blog Ze wrote:

thank you for all of your comments, i missed you too :: during the strike let’s keep each other company :: from time to time, i’ll post a video, and maybe you could send interesting things to ze@zefrank.com which i can post as well :: P.S. the lights are the same as they always were, but i put up a big piece of white paper behind me :: very professional

For better or worse, maybe he’ll have enough time to re-hone his style. Like Chris Albrecht notes, it’s all there, but it still feels a little “anemic,” a little devoid of something. But perhaps that’s just a normal byproduct of what happens when New Yorkers move to LA.
