Jackson West called it. During a live interview with Jonny Goldstein Wednesday night, Irina Slutsky – Geek Entertainment TV’s (Tilzy.TV page) hostess with the mostess and the beaming, happy-go-lucky former female face of online video network PodTech
While she was working for PodTech, Slutsky did much of the grunt work for the network’s black-tie-optional web video awards ceremony dubbed “The Vloggies.” In 1949 a handful of motion picture executives created the Emmy’s to bring legitimacy to the burgeoning film industry. The Vloggies was an event started for similar reasons and an indicator that web video had finally arrived.
Unfortunately for Slutsky, PodTech obtained legal rights to the name of the event. “It’s just a word…what are you gonna do?” she asked her webcam last night. If you’re Slutksy, the answer’s obvious. Put on two awards shows. ###
While working with Kent Nichols of Ask a Ninja (Tilzy.TV page) to create an as of yet unnamed “independently funded organization that will do an awards show that will recognize excellence, talent, and achievement in online video” to be hosted at a later date, Slutsky is currently planning The Winnies.
On December 1, in LA, the terribly cutely named soirée will feature no judges, no voting, minimal awards, and a lot of web tv personalities. Gary Vayernchuk of Wine Library TV (Tilzy.TV page) is slated to provide the social lubricant, Galacticast (Tilzy.TV page) will take care of the live performances, and everybody….errr….wins.
What’s up with the trademarked Vloggies? That’s still up in the air, but I’m sure PodTech’s newly announced CEO, James McCormick, will have some ideas of how to handle the event.
