Where's Buzz TV?

Aaron Krane is the mostly hip, but part geeked-out host of Technorati’s Buzz TV. Originally dubbed the Technorati Daily Vlog, the show first aired in October 2006 as a rundown of hot topics on the web.

Technorati catalogues literally millions of blogs (currently they claim over 89 million) for quick and easy searches, so it’s only natural for the site to feature a vlog about blogs.  Every weekday, Krane–whose official business title happens to be “Marketing Ranger” — culls top stories from  Technorati’s list of most searched, most linked-to items in the Live Web.  Like the web itself, Buzz TV is a mix of world events, politics, tech, and pop.

Not everyone can appreciate Rocketboom’s presentation, The 9 can get a bit poppy, and Ze Frank is sometimes just plain weirdBuzz TV fills a gap by providing news that doesn’t try too hard to be cool or hip; it’s straightforward and easygoing.   Krane is like that knowledgeable-friend-of-an-older-sibling who knows what’s going on and will break it down so you can understand. In that respect, the show has a strikingly similar feel to

MTV’s Webcam Dispatch with Matt Sunbulli, except daily and with a tighter budget.

But near the beginning of this past May, Buzz TV went away. What happened?

According to the show’s website, “Buzz TV is no longer a Technorati production. After a brief hiatus, it will return as a fully independent web-show with its own website.”

So, why the change? “We decided it wasn’t the best fit for Technorati, but because of the audience interest, I felt inclined to continue the show on my own,” Krane explained via e-mail. “The new show will be the same format, but different name, branding, and no affiliation with Technorati except in so far as I use Technorati as a resource.”

Krane gave an ETA on the new show to debut in the next two weeks, and I’m looking forward to the relaunch. There aren’t many options for daily, relevant news shows and Buzz TV has potential to make some noise.
