If you haven’t yet encountered Cool Hunting, the best way to explanation is in the title. The site’s editors hunt anything that’s cool to include in their vlog and blog. Usually, this means products (clothes, furniture, music, food), art (graphic design, illustration, new media), and events (festivals, exhibitions, light shows). It’s a pretty phenomenal vlog whose RSS I try to catch up with on a daily basis.
Featured topics are connected by a heavy emphasis on design and, to a lesser extent, green sensibilities and urban interests. A recent episode interviewing Ross Menuez, who talks about how he designed an adjustable leather belt without any metal, is a perfect example of Cool Hunting’s editorial interests.
Which is why this
week’s episode, presenting footage from last week’s Dachshund Spring Fiesta in New York’s Washington Square Park, is notably bizarre. With polka music laid over shots of Dachshunds and Dobsons licking their owners, the quick video is a surreal moment of hilarity in the Cool Hunting series. Although I don’t know why I’m so surprised. Last week’s episode featured Sam Hatmaker, a collector of Wonder Woman memorabilia “in defiance of childhood” juxtaposed with the same odd polka music. I guess after making 70 episodes on artists and musicians, Dachshunds and Wonder Woman were a welcome reprieve.Check out the Dachshund Spring Fiesta 2007 on Cool Hunting.
