Back in the day, it was rare to see any YouTube channels with one million subscribers. During the second week of April 2025, however, there were four different U.S.-based channels that needed only seven days to add one million new subs.

MrBeast, who runs YouTube’s most-subscribed channel, put himself at the top of that group. He added three million new subscribers to bring his platform-topping total up to 385 million.
‘A Minecraft Movie’ made Technoblade a posthumous chart-topper
It’s hard to believe it’s already been nearly three years since Technoblade passed away due to cancer. Many individuals within the Minecraft scene have struggled to come to terms with the loss of a young, vivacious member of their community.
The recent blockbuster A Minecraft Movie gave Technoblade fans another chance to reminisce about the departed creator. One scene in the film showed a blocky pig wearing a crown — a clear homage to Technoblade’s signature Minecraft avatar. Moviegoers have applauded the allusion to a “legend” of the sandbox game’s world.
The decision to bring Technoblade back into the spotlight has also revived interest in his YouTube channel. He got 600,000 new subscribers during the second week of April, even though he (obviously) hasn’t uploaded new content and he never had much time to try out YouTube Shorts. Instead, existing Minecraft gameplay snippets on his channel are drawing fresh sets of eyes.
Technoblade’s posthumous success is not just a stirring tribute to a creator who meant so much to his 19.1 million fans. It’s also a refreshing reminder that humble, narrative content can still get attention amidst a sea of brainrot.
In the U.S. Top 50, Technoblade finished one spot ahead of CapyCat, a truly bizarre channel filled to the brim with AI slop. But the low quality of the channel’s uploads hasn’t stopped it from bringing in 510,000 new subscribers in a single week. As the below graph shows, much of that volume came during an early-week spike.
The Minecraft community likes to say that “Technoblade never dies,” and I really hope that’s true. For as long as the porcine king reigns, he can defend his kingdom against the strange brainrot characters rapping at the castle doors.
Channel Distribution
This week, there are 39 YouTube Shorts channels in the U.S. Top 50.
