The first week of October brought few surprises to our Global Top 50. The ranking of YouTube’s most-watched channels is heavy on Shorts and skewed toward family content, but that description doesn’t apply to the chart’s top channel.

T-Series is #1, but the titans of YouTube’s family category are not far behind
T-Series started October the same way it ended September — on top of our weekly ranking. With 883.6 million weekly views, India’s largest record label is fulfilling the dream of its departed founder Gulshan Kumar, who wanted to bring his people to “the top of the international platform.”
There are other Indian pop culture channels in the Global Top 50, including StarPlus (#11) and SET India (#27), but the world’s most populous country is delivering more chart toppers in the realm of children’s content. The Malayalam-language hub KL BRO Biju Rithvik is sitting in fifth place, while Anaya Kandhal is still in the top ten at #9.
Kandhal’s channel has fallen off a bit since its multi-month run as the hottest kids’ hub on YouTube, but it’s still quite relevant in our rankings. Even a “down week” for the Kandhals — to the tune of 517.6 million weekly views — outpaces most other channels.
Other family channels in the top ten include Toys and Colors (#2), Sierra & Rhia FAM (#4), and J House jr. (#7). YouTube’s youngest viewers are still the most influential drivers of its traffic trends, though fans of Indian pop music might have something to say about that.
Not all of India’s family content looks the same
India is the most frequently represented country in our Global Top 50, with 17 of its homegrown channels cracking the chart. The majority of those channels depict family scenes, but the specific family members depicted in those videos seem to vary by gender.
Female creators, such as Sejal Gaba (#13) and The geeta gurjar (#33) are often depicted as mothers, and their daughters typically share top billing with them. But some of the male-led Indian channels, such as Piyuansh (#21), focus more on the relationship between brothers rather than depicting parental moments.
Is the latter approach picking up steam? While The geeta gurjar lost 17% of its traffic week-over-week, Piyuansh just put together one of the best weeks it has had since its launch earlier this year.
All things considered, it’s good to be an Indian family creator, no matter the approach. Even the lowest-ranking Indian channel in the Global Top 50 managed more than 230 million weekly views.
Classical music content? On Shorts?
Maryna Aksenov is bringing it.
Germany’s lone representative in the Global Top 50 isn’t exactly T-Series. Instead of dance music, Aksenov performs pieces that are suitable for relaxation.
Aksenov has a lot of talent, but the videos propelling her on YouTube don’t always feature her own performances. Instead, she turns the basic principles of music theory into digestible content on Shorts. And of course, Aksenov offers her fair share of musical memes.
Classical music isn’t known as the most prosperous category on YouTube, but it’s starting to rise up on Shorts. Aksenov’s channel is a good example of this trend. During the first week of October, she picked up 375.5 million weekly views and finished 16th in the Global Top 50. She has the rest of the month to prepare for her grand finale.
