Last year, the most-watched YouTube channel of all time put distance between itself and the rest of the field. In 2023, it’s been a different story.

Two YouTube Shorts channels passed the former chart leader in the latest edition of our Global Top 50 ranking.
Chart Toppers
Cocomelon – Nursery Rhymes is taking it up to 11. For the 11th week in a row, the California-based producer of animated family content is in front of our Global Top 50. Cocomelon secured its latest #1 finish by adding 763 million weekly views during the second full week of April. That total represented a 28% week-over-week increase on top of a sum that was already big to outpace all other YouTube channels. Right now, Cocomelon is simply in a league of its own.
KIMPRO finished second in this week’s Global Top 50. It’s the highest the Korean channel has ever been in our worldwide ranking. By delivering a couple’s takes on short-form trends, the hub that self-identifies as “KIMPRO from TikTok” is hauling in more YouTube viewership than any other Shorts channel. KIMPRO picked up 533.9 million weekly views to finish just above the #3 and #4 positions.
Alan Chikin Chow is the #3 channel in the latest Global Top 50. The comedian known for his vertical videos ranked the highest among individual creators and among U.S.-based YouTube Shorts channels. Chow’s statistics are just as impressive as his superlatives. He collected 522 million weekly views to earn a second-straight week in the #3 spot. Chow was unable to move up in the Global Top 50 even though he improved his traffic by 29% week-over-week.
T-Series fell all the way to fourth in the Global Top 50. As I mentioned in my intro, the Indian record label spent most of 2022 atop our worldwide ranking. But during the second week of April, T-Series couldn’t quite keep up with the leading Shorts channels on YouTube. Though it tallied 517.8 million weekly views, T-Series dropped two spots a week after it earned a runner-up finish. Despite that dip, the musical channel attracted its 240 millionth subscriber this week.
Mr DegrEE added a third Shorts channel in this week’s global top five. The Russia-based hub surged all the way up from 23rd place after picking up 465.7 million weekly views.
Top Gainers
This week, five channels hailing from South Korea made it into our Global Top 50. Two of those channels — CuRe and CRAZY GREAPA — are getting big viewership with videos that depict a specific stereotype. Lets talk about the rise of the “sigma girls.”
Like an alpha, a sigma has a dominating presence and no shortage of confidence. Sigma girls also have independent streaks that can set them apart from alphas.
That personality profile is providing a canvas for short-form creators. Several of CuRe’s most-watched videos show depict sigma girls who don’t play by society’s rules. If you play a prank on their hair, they’ll cut it off. If you give them sass, they’ll shove a dirty piece of chicken in your mouth. With the sigma stereotype, exaggerated actions are the norm.
CuRe’s sigma girl videos helped it launch itself into the Global Top 50 in April. The Korean channel finished 44th in our latest worldwide ranking. It was able to move up more than 50 spots by pulling in 215 million views, which represented a 41% week-over-week increase. CuRe is on track to reach two billion lifetime YouTube views by the time our next Global Top 50 rolls around.
With CuRe in 44th place and CRAZY GREAPA in 10th, the sigmas are clearly a force to be reckoned with in Korean culture. And another of the nation’s Top 50 entrants, K-pop Blackpink, displays some sigma girl tendencies of its own.
