Russian news channels are making their way toward the top of the chart, and an intrepid Ukranian outlet cracked the Top 50 as well. But in the #1 spot, it was business as usual for the world’s most dominant YouTube channel.
Chart Toppers
T-Series had another t-riffic week on YouTube.
The Indian record label entered March the same way it left February: At the top of our Global Top 50. Its latest seven-day total is 817 million weekly views, which is a slight downturn from its previous total but still more than enough viewership to hold onto the #1 spot. For T-Series, its t-minus 17 billion views to reach the 200 billion lifetime view mark on YouTube.
T-Series’ compatriot, SET India, followed behind it to take hold of the #2 position it occupied throughout February. The TV-adjacent hub collected 613.2 million weekly views during the week that was. Though its sister channel Sony SAB fell out of the global top five, SET India maintain its strong chart performance by offering a plethora of entertainment options to its 128 million subscribers.
Up next in the Global Top 50 is Like Nastya. The channel that refers to its star as the most-subscribed individual creator on YouTube had a big week, surging forward with a 10% week-over-week viewership jump. That brought its seven-day total up to 610.2 million weekly views, which resulted in an advance from fourth place in the world up to third.
Like Nastya’s gain was Cocomelon – Nursery Rhymes‘ pain. The California-based, Moonbug-owned channel slipped to fourth place in our Global Top 50 this week. Its 551.9 million weekly views still put it in rarified company, even though that total was 4% lower than the one Cocomelon posted a week ago.
Россия 24, or Russia 24, rounds out this week’s global top five. With its coverage of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Slavic news channel has reached its highest-ever chart position. It registered 451.8 million weekly views.
Top Gainers
Russian news channels are not the only ones that are seeing viewership increases thanks to global interest in the Russia-Ukraine war. For the first time in more than a year, a Ukrainian channel made it into our Global Top 50.
The channel in question is 24 Канал, or Channel 24, a news service based in the former Soviet republic. Just as Russia 24 has gotten millions of views by posted Vladimir Putin’s speeches, Channel 24 has emerged as a go-to source for addresses from Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky.
Its not just Zelensky, however, who is attracting attention on channel 24. The channel’s most-watched video from the past two weeks discussed alleged war crimes committed by Russian soldiers against Ukrainian civilians.
The comments on videos like these universally call for peace. “This is our land, some shouted. No, ours was answered by others,” reads one popular comment. “And the earth quietly answered, all of you are mine! Brothers, we do not need this war!”
Channel 24’s totals for the week include 178.4 million weekly views and a ranking of 35th place in the Global Top 50. I think everyone is rooting for a situation where the world does not need to follow Ukrainian news so intently.
