Micro-video content creators are thriving thanks to the increasing adoption of the YouTube Shorts platform, but despite all the views those channels have racked up, they are still struggling to catch a kid-friendly hub that seems to lead our U.S. top 50 more often than not.
Chart Toppers
Yep, I’m taking about Cocomelon – Nursery Rhymes. The California-based purveyor of animations and jingles rarely strays far from the genre referenced in its channel name, probably because it has found a formula that works. With 408.7 million weekly views, Cocomelon and its nursery rhymes vaulted into the #1 spot in our U.S. Top 50, displacing previous chart leader Khamitovy. That channel, which gets its views almost exclusively through YouTube Shorts, was bumped back to the #2 spot, even though hosts Marta and Rustam still reached an impressive number of eyeballs. Over seven days, they earned 391.4 million weekly views, enough to surpass any U.S.-based channel not named Cocomelon.
The third-most viewed U.S.-based channel of the week is LankyBox, which combines the approaches of the two channels ahead of it. Like Cocomelon, LankyBox s audience includes a lot of children, and like Kamitovy, the channel is no stranger to the shores of YouTube Shorts. Over seven days, hosts Justin and Adam took on new challenges in games like Roblox and Minecraft and earned 241.7 million weekly views in the process. That was slightly more viewership than what Kids Diana Show pulled in, so the latter channel — a family-friendly destination with roots in the Ukraine and a home in Florida — settled for fourth place in our U.S. Top 50. Its stars, siblings Diana and Roma, led it to a seven-day total of 239 million weekly views.
YoesIan rounded out this week’s U.S. top five. The micro-video hub, whose star often dresses up in various monster costumes, pulled in 221.5 million weekly views.
Top Gainers
In this week’s U.S. Top 50, the 50th and final spot is occupied by a creator named Arnie Negrete. Negrete is (stop me if you’ve heard this one before) a multi-platform influencer whose sizeable presence on TikTok (6.4 million fans) has provided him a jumping-off point from which he can make his mark on YouTube.
Like many other creators who have reaped lucrative returns on YouTube Shorts, Negrete’s viewership is mostly tied up in a select few videos. His 24-second exploration of a PEZ dispenser “hack” has needed fewer than three weeks to cobble together more than 9.9 million views.
Negrete’s week on YouTube was marked by substantial growth. The 72.6 million weekly views he pulled in on his way to the #50 spot were about four times as many as what he collected during the previous week. He only fell about eight million views shy of catching Disney’s official VEVO page, and he is one man, and Disney is Disney.
When you look at the rate of Negrete’s growth, things really start getting wild. The viewership his channel earned during our most recent measurement period is nearly twice as large as what it earned during all other weeks combined. This is what YouTube Shorts is doing: It is launching TikTok stars into our rankings, and it is doing so nearly overnight. Only the algorithm knows who it will crown next week.
