Outside of the top spot, our worldwide ranking reveals a fairly typical running order. Short-form content, kids videos, and comedy remain the most common categories in our chart.
The Top 5
🥇Please welcome this week’s new chart leader, Jamuna TV! The Bangladesh-based channel is one of two representatives from its home country to crack the ranking, and it was able to reach #1 by sharing some chaotic domestic scenes. Bangladesh is in the midst of a crisis after the ousting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was accused of corruption and human rights violations during her two-decade tenure at the helm of the South Asian nation. Government censorship has restricted access to some information related to Bangladesh’s ongoing protests, but concerned citizens can turn to Jamuna TV for important updates. The news channel collected 840.9 million weekly views during the first full week of August, more than doubling its total from the previous seven-day period.
🥈Compared to Jamuna TV’s videos, the content on the second-ranked channel in the Global Top 50 is far more innocent. Anaya Kandhal retained the chart position she earned a week ago thanks to her continued focus on cute, easily digestible family content. With her parents at her side, young Anaya has become the breakout YouTube star of 2024, at least from a viewership perspective. She added to her lifetime total by accruing 731.1 million views during the week that was. She now counts more than 35 billion YouTube views in total.
🥉ToRung is in third place in the Global Top 50. This Vietnamese creator — his country’s only representative in the latest global chart — focuses on generating laughs above all else. From his ridiculous thumbnails to his loud, action-packed videos, ToRung packs comedy into every moment of his content. As he reached 30 million subscribers on his primary YouTube channel, his laugh-happy approach gave him a boost. He moved up in our ranking after counting 647.3 million weekly views.
🌟KIMPRO took fourth place in the latest Global Top 50. Though the Korean short-form hub earned more views this week than it did over our previous seven-day measurement period, that uptick was not reflected in the rankings. Korea’s most-watched YouTube channel actually dropped one spot after finishing third a week ago. I guess even 592.8 million weekly views is not quite enough to keep up with the torrid pace of our chart leaders.
✨Toys and Colors rounds out this week’s global top five. The highest-ranking U.S.-based channel in the chart finished the week with 525.6 million weekly views.
Top Gainers
Last week, we discussed the impressive rise of the official NBC Sports channel, which relied on athletes and non-athletes alike to soar toward the top of our charts. But NBC isn’t the only hub benefitting from the world’s quadrennial Olympics fever. The competition’s official channel, which flies the flag of the United Kingdom (even though the IOC itself is based in Switzerland), just cracked our Global Top 50 for the first time in years.
Many of the most-watched clips on the Olympics channel are Shorts, and most of those Shorts have nothing to do with the 2024 Summer Games in Paris. As the IOC continues to haul in views on its back catalog, it is directing viewers to the newest Olympic heroes. A clip of speed climbing champion Aleksandra Miroslaw has risen above 26 million views since Miroslaw claimed gold in Paris — even though the clip itself is about two years old.

In total, the Olympics channel pulled in 314.7 million weekly views during the final few days of the 2024 Games. That was good for a 45% week-over-week increase that bumped the Olympics channel up to 23rd place in the Global Top 50.
A five-ringed viewership boosted during the Olympics is to be expected, but the official Olympics channel seems prepared to continue its hot streak even after the conclusion of the closing ceremony. Its Shorts library shows the strategies it can use to remain relevant on YouTube until 2026. Curling videos can be oddly satisfying clips, handball can be a hotbed for ASMR sensations, and any competition is a chance to film YouTube’s next great family video.
If the Olympics continues to lean into the biggest video trends on Shorts, it will remain relevant on YouTube for years to come. This is a particularly important four-year period for the Games. The 2028 summer competition will be held in Los Angeles, where there will presumably be plenty of influencers who are eager to team up with the IOC’s official YouTube outlet.
