Wattpad’s creator-educating Story School returns for Season 2 (Exclusive)

Wattpad‘s Story School is back in session.

After seeing nearly a million views and getting what Wattpad Head of Content & Creator Development Nick Uskoski calls “really excellent feedback” on its four-episode educational YouTube series from early last year, the writing platform has decided to produce a second season, this one aimed at diving deeper into how authors can make their characters and stories compelling.

Season 2 will cover things like developing plot hooks and setting character goals, motivations, conflicts, and stakes. Like it did for Season 1, Wattpad has tapped a couple of the over 5 million authors posting original fiction and fanfiction on its site: Nicole Nwosu (author of The Bad Boy and the Tomboy, 109M reads), and Fallon DeMornay (author of Stiletto Sisterhood, 478k reads).

Nwosu and DeMornay will chat with Season 2’s host, Wattpad Content Education Specialist Harry Hanson, and give their perspectives on these topics, including going over strategies and literary mechanisms that have worked for them.

Guest authors are vital in the construction of Story School‘s lessons, Uskoski (pictured above) tells Tubefilter. “We want them to come in and bring their experience,” he says. “We want to hear what they have to say.”

He adds that Wattpad views Story School as a way to give the 90+ million people who use its platform access to information that’s been “historically gatekept.”

“Writers have always asked for this information, and there’s always been a tension around it, of sort,” he says. “There has been gatekeeping, historically, for a lot of different levels of education materials. There’s just such an incredible amount of passion fueling the writers on Wattpad. They want to write as best they can. And so we want to say here, how can we support you as much as possible?”
